Vacuum Producers

Item #: Vacuum Producers

Vacuum producers are the heart of every pneumatic conveying system, creating the negative air pressure required to pull material through the system. VAC-U-MAX offers vacuum producers for every application: venturi power units, positive displacement vacuum pumps, high vacuum pumps, and regenerative blowers.

Overview

The vacuum producer is the heart of a pneumatic conveying system, working with the control panel to regulate the flow of material through convey tubes and on to the vacuum filter receivers.

VAC-U-MAX offers four options to create airflow in a system:

  • Venturi Power Units operate using compressed air and have no moving parts. The VAC-U-MAX venturi power unit is a low-cost, easy-to-install way to integrate pneumatic conveying.
  • Positive Displacement Vacuum Pumps create vacuum using a rotary lobe pump belt driven by a motor. Primarily used for dilute and semi-dense convey systems.
  • High Vacuum Pumps are used for dense phase conveying where the material conveys in slugs through tubing.
  • Regenerative Blowers (aka Regen Blowers) are lower in vacuum and higher in airflow and are excellent for use when conveying granular or pelleted products.
Venturi Power Units

Venturi units are a VAC-U-MAX innovation. These highly effective, quiet power units are ideal for low rate, intermittent use where sufficient plant air is available. Simple in construction and operation, venturi power units have no moving parts and thus require minimum maintenance.

Regular shop air, reduced to 60 psig, is passed through the venturi, developing a powerful vacuum which draws air and material through the conveying lines. A variable orifice (normally set for 8″ Hg vacuum) can be adjusted to a maximum of 16″ Hg.

Venturi power units are available in single to quadruple venturi versions. (Single and twin variations in stainless steel are pictured in the gallery.) Cycling can be controlled manually with a manual air control valve, automatically utilizing an air control valve actuated by a timer control panel, or by a signal from other control devices.

A patented muffler system keeps sound levels well below OSHA limits. Venturi power units require no electrical connections and never run hot, even when “dead ended,” making them ideal for explosion hazard areas. They be mounted practically anywhere – on a wall, post, machine, vertically, horizontally, etc.

Vacuum Pumps

POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT PUMPS

Vacuum pump packages are recommended for applications that require higher rates over longer distances and continuous service. They are also used on applications where a venturi unit would be adequate, but sufficient compressed air is not available.

Our positive displacement vacuum pumps feature a positive displacement lobe-type blower and are complete packages with motor and blower, secondary material filter on the inlet, and a muffler on the outlet. They are primarily used for dilute and semi-dense convey systems.

These units are mounted on a heavy duty, forkliftable base and are equipped with belt guards conforming to current OSHA standards. Included are a glycerin-filled vacuum gauge and a vacuum relief valve. A secondary filter protects the pump from any carryover of material from the material receiver. Filter cartridges are easily changed by removing the end cover. An optional differential pressure gauge and/or switch can also be furnished to indicate or shut down the system if the filter becomes restricted.

HIGH VACUUM PUMPS

High vacuum pumps are used for dense phase conveying where the material conveys in slugs through tubing. They are specifically designed for handling high-density materials (e.g., steel shot, grit, cement).

Regenerative Blowers

Regen blowers are lower in vacuum and higher in airflow and are excellent for use when conveying granular or pelleted products, where air speed is more important than vacuum power. They are used in short-distance, high-volume transfer of lightweight, free-flowing materials like plastic pellets, granules, and dry powders.

Regenerative blowers offer a cost-effective, low-maintenance, and continuous vacuum source and are good for packing and filling applications.
