Overview

The VAC-U-MAX AM-MPRS™ (Additive Manufacturing Metal Powder Recovery System) is specifically engineered for the demands of metal additive manufacturing, delivering up to 85% faster metal powder recovery while maintaining full control of reactive and non-reactive metal powders.

The system is designed to extract, transfer, screen, and convey metal powders – all within an enclosed process that eliminates open-handling and reduces operator exposure. Metal powder is extracted directly from the 3D printer, transferred under controlled conditions, screened to remove agglomerates and oversized particles, then conveyed back to the printer for immediate reuse.

This integrated process preserves metal powder quality, minimizes contamination, and reduces downtime between builds. Optimized for materials such as titanium, aluminum, and nickel alloys, AM-MPRS improves workplace safety while supporting consistent, repeatable printing performance. By combining extraction, transfer, screening, and conveying, VAC-U-MAX enables higher throughput, increased metal powder reuse, and a cleaner, safer metal AM production environment.

Process

The AM-MPRS uses a compressed gas-powered VAC-U-MAX venturi unit to vacuum convey metal powders directly from the printing bed. Metal powder is separated from the airstream by gravity-drop and a surface filter then is discharged into a surge hopper which meters the powder onto the screen deck of the sieve. Here, larger powders and agglomerations are separated from smaller particles; the smaller particles pass through the screen and sieve outlet into the collection container (aided by an ultrasonic generator to enhance powder flow) making them immediately available for reuse.

The system operates as a continuous closed-loop, minimizing operator exposure and protecting your material. The high frequency / high amplitude sieve removes fines as low as 15 microns, then discharges metal powders into a pail, drum, or IBC, in an inert environment. The AM-MPRS includes a manifold and oxygen monitor alarm, with temperature and humidity monitors optional. The system is NFPA 484 compliant for handling metal powders.

The AM-MPRS recovers all metal powders used in additive manufacturing—titanium, aluminum, and nickel alloys, both reactive and non-reactive metal powders, water-reactive powders, Iconel®, stainless steel, Haynes 282®, and cobalt chrome. It also works with ceramics and polymer powders.
