We recommend using lightweight SuperFlex hose for overhead applications.

NOTE: This kit fits 1.5″ hose. Vacuum cleaners with 2″ inlets should use our Hose-to-Tool Adapter (part 23224) to connect this tool kit.

Overhead Cleaning: Combustible Dusts

All fugitive dusts are potentially respirable, they inflict considerable wear on equipment, and 80% of process dusts are combustible.

While each combustible dust has a different quantity and concentration threshold for danger, OSHA guidelines state, “in general, a thickness greater than 1/32 of an inch is cause for concern when the surface area covered by settled dust exceeds five percent of the floor area in a given room.” (1/32 inch is roughly the thickness of a paperclip.)

Many facilities appear to be free of concentrations of dust at eye level, but the culprit behind many secondary dust explosions is the accumulation of dust in out-of-sight places such as overhead beams, joists, duct work, and the tops of equipment.
